Trauma-Focused Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive Arts Therapy is the integrative use of art modalities like music, visual arts, movement, drama, storytelling and play. It is a multimodal approach, sometimes using the arts simultaneously or moving from one art form to another.

Why Arts and Trauma Therapy?

By its very nature, trauma makes us feel stuck- in relationships, habits, internal narratives and stories we tell ourselves. It takes us away from joy, enlivenment, connection and we become individuals who move through life isolating ourselves, existing and not living.

In my practice, I focus on capacity building, understanding the impact of traumatic experiences on a client’s life and creating resilience and trust in one’s own body and mind.

Areas I focus on:

~Trauma focused therapy is about getting back to a nourishing relationship with self and environment~

Since a young age, I have always found safety in arts, joy in the creative process and an empowered sense of self when imagination came alive through painting, movement and enactment. It’s my personal relationship with the arts that led me to specialize in trauma and grief focused therapy.

Art is the container of our deeply held stories of joy, sorrow, grief and pain. Be it a song, a character from a story, a piece of art or movement – art heals and connects us to both ourselves and our communities. Today, neuroscience backs how implicit (internal) and explicit (declarative) components of trauma and grief can be processed through expressive arts, but embodied engagement with arts is nothing new, it has always been an integral part of  our  existence.

In my work, I aim to tap into your creative and imaginative selves to rediscover skills for connection and growth.
